We often overlook the passion behind the impulses of our heart. We tend to neglect the small whispers our heart tells us to act on like going to watch the sunset early in the morning with a cup of coffee in hand, going on a midnight drive to blast your favorite tunes from the 2000's, throwing on your favorite song and dancing in your room because you love to dance, or staying up past 1am to read another chapter out of the intriguing book you just started.
I have been so intrigued with wellness since I started nursing school, but never understood what I could ever do with it. I barely even knew why I initially applied for nursing school! But here I am, a year later recognizing that I need to use my passions and trust their impulses. I may never make an impact or change someone's health, but I am going to try. Even if I fail in this idea, I have still succeeded in taking a risk, listening to my heart, learning more than I could ever imagine, and having my heart be filled with joy.
I believe in your desires. I believe that you should actively seek your passions and strengths. If you have always wanted to learn to ride a unicycle, GO DO IT! If you have always been eager to learn to read music and play the piano, go sign up for lessons! There is nothing stopping you from your desires that your own mind telling you not to chase your dreams. Go seek, and you will find that you just have to knock on the door to have your desires fulfilled.
I have been on a mission recently, asking myself and God what I dream of. Before I found my community of friends, I couldn't remember the last time someone asked me what I dreamed of being, achieving or doing in my lifetime since I was a small child in elementary school. I grew up being OKAY with the idea of being average, of living a life that feels like settling. But now I know what I want. I encourage you to live a life that meets the expectations you set for yourself.
I dream everyday. My absolute favorite conversations are the ones with my friends about dreaming & ideas. Here are a few ways to get your dreaming started, I encourage you to ask your family and friends too:
- Have you dreamed recently?
- What inspires you?
- What do you like to learn?
- What's your dream job?
- If you could do anything in the world, what would it be?
- What kind of legacy do you want to leave?
